As a follow-up to the successful first International Conference on Applications of Radiation Science and Technology (ICARST-2017), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is organizing the Second International Conference on Applications of Radiation Science and Technology (ICARST-2022) from 22-26 August 2022 in Vienna, Austria.

Radiation science and technology will be discussed at ICARST in ViennaRadiation and radioactive materials have been artificially produced since X-rays and radioactivity were discovered more than 100 years ago. Radiation science and technology have advanced dramatically thanks to the studies of ionizing radiation and radioactive materials. They are used for a variety of procedures in industry, agriculture, and research.

A number of human needs have been addressed with radiation technologies. These include improving industrial production and processes, managing scarce freshwater resources better, enhancing human health and food safety, preserving cultural heritage, and protecting the environment.

Through close collaboration with its Member States, professional scientific bodies, and industry, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has sought to maximize the contribution of radiation sciences and technologies towards achieving the development priorities of the Member States in a safe environment.

This conference will provide a unique opportunity to review key developments in radiation science and technology. Also, it will provide a review of the field’s ‘state of the science’; national, regional, and global initiatives to implement proven industrial applications that will benefit society and strengthen state capacity; serve as a composite platform by which academia and industry can collaborate to ensure radiation technologies succeed in meeting various challenges.

Plenary sessions will cover relevant topics such as advanced radiation chemistry and trends in radiation science and technology, as well as radiation science and technology success stories that support UN-SDGs. There will be invited keynote speakers from academia and industry, giving oral presentations and participating in panel discussions. There will also be poster sessions to allow for ample discussion and interaction. Finally, a closing round table session will summarize the main conclusions drawn from the plenary sessions.
