    UAE and Italy review strategic partnership during Rome visit

    ROME: UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan met Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome during a working visit, as the two countries reviewed cooperation under their strategic partnership. The talks included economic and political engagement between the United Arab Emirates and Italy, according to official statements released on Thursday.

    Sheikh Abdullah conveyed greetings from UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Meloni and wished Italy continued progress and prosperity. Meloni asked that her greetings be conveyed to the UAE president and expressed wishes for the UAE’s continued prosperity and well-being, the UAE statements said. Officials said the meeting reviewed opportunities to expand cooperation in the economy, trade and investment, as well as renewable energy, sustainability and artificial intelligence. The two sides also discussed regional and international developments, and they discussed efforts aimed at strengthening security and stability.

    Bilateral agenda in focus

    The UAE said Sheikh Abdullah thanked Meloni for Italy’s solidarity with the UAE. The readout added that the two leaders discussed the importance of strengthening efforts aimed at enhancing sustainable security and stability in the region, without providing further details on any specific measures or timelines.

    In the same visit, Sheikh Abdullah also met Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani. The foreign ministers discussed ways to develop bilateral cooperation across sectors including the economy, trade and investment, and reviewed cooperation in renewable energy, innovation and advanced technology, according to the UAE statement.

    Regional developments discussed

    The UAE said the two diplomats reviewed regional and international developments and the broader situation in the Middle East. The statement said they underscored the importance of joint efforts to support regional security and stability and to reinforce peaceful solutions to disputes through dialogue and diplomatic means.

    The UAE statement said Sheikh Abdullah described UAE–Italy relations as seeing accelerated growth that reflects historical ties and a shared commitment to expanding cooperation. It added that the UAE places importance on strengthening partnerships with friendly countries, including Italy, in support of sustainable development and stability at regional and international levels. The UAE said the meetings were attended by Minister of State Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri, and that the Tajani meeting also included Assistant Foreign Minister for Energy and Sustainability Affairs Abdullah Balalaa. – By Content Syndication Services.
